David Eggers Response

The time frame of this vignette, Woman Waiting to Take a Photograph, appears to be around late 90s to early 2000s.  However, the writer implies that many photographers are willing to exploit the underclass, in efforts of getting a photo.  When the writer mentions the “exploitation” and “hypocrisy” of the woman, it reflects the writer’s annoyed attitude toward the woman for not having any decency for the underclass.  Constantly repeating the term “Go-Getters”, the writer hints at the irony because these people who are the opposite of go-getters are walking into a store with this name, which is why the woman was taking these photos in the first place.  In the final sentence, although the writer sounds annoyed, he gives some credit to the woman as a photographer for capturing such a specific moment with meaning.
